Michael Anastassiades
"The idea of removing information is the core of my work. I prefer to remove rather than add: I arrive at a piece as the conclusion of a process in which there is nothing left to remove. Only the essential elements remain and everything else comes together balanced.
At the same time, however, it is important to introduce that gesture, that extra game which is subtle humour. Because humour is key."
Cypriot designer based in London, where he studied and established his studio in 2007, Michael Anastassiades works across lighting, furniture, objects, and spaces, in a continual interplay of collaborations with major international brands, prestigious awards, and works that have become part of the permanent collections of museums such as MoMA in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the MAK in Vienna.
The design of Michael Anastassiades is characterised by essential forms that often evoke familiar archetypes, by the honest use of materials, and by a clear and immediate functionality that does not forgo a subtle vein of irony.
Precise and rigorous in the details, his works conceal a touch of playful vitality, always ready to surprise. The Clockwise table and Klotski chair, designed for Tacchini, are no exception, once again confirming his unmistakable approach and aesthetic.
